Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell, an American journalist and commentator, who works for NBC News in Washington D.C. She is also a television anchor. She earned an undergraduate degree in English literature from the University of Pennsylvania after growing as a child in New York City. Mitchell was hired as a reporter by KYW Radio and TV Philadelphia in the year 1967. In 1976 she joined the CBS affiliate WDVM-TV. (then WTOP in Washington DC). After two years, she joined NBC News as a Washington correspondent. 1981 she started covering the White House, and in 1988 was named chief congressional correspondent. In 1992, she was appointed the Chief White House Correspondent and in 1994 chief foreign affairs reporter of NBC News. Mitchell has been a panelist, as well as host of the TV show Meet the Press. Mitchell was a panelist in 1988's presidential debates which pitted George Bush against Michael Dukakis. Mitchell got married to Alan Greenspan the former chairman of Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell received the Goldsmith Career Award in 2005 by the John F. Kennedy School of Government for excellence in journalism. In 2004, The Radio-Television News Directors Association gave Mitchell the Leonard Zeidenberg Award in recognition of her contributions to protecting First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell began covering in the White House for NBC News from 1981-1988 during both of Ronald Reagan's terms as President. Mitchell covered a number of noteworthy reports over the years, such as the tax reforms, budget reforms and an investigation into the Iran Contra saga. Mitchell traveled extensively with Reagan and Mikhail Gorbachev to world summits.
